"Most people don't know this," says Daniel, "but I actually wrote most of the score to Flying Free when I was eighteen. I was writing the original novel, and with just about every scene I wrote, I kept hearing the music that I wanted with it, so when I wasn't in front of the computer, I was in front of the synthesizer, writing the music. What's interesting to me is the fact that while the story has gone through several revisions and changes since it's inception, the music has mostly stayed the same."

"I wrote the main theme to Flying Free first, and I will not ever stray from it, as I think it's one of the most beautiful themes I have ever written. It's also important for me to stick to the old-fashioned idea of a true movie score, which is based upon a theme and whose different variations and deviations from that theme, form the ambience, mood, life and emotion of the motion picture."
